Biarescie castle is one of the oldest Belarusian castles. A fortified settlement in the area was first mentioned in the XI century and a fortified castle in the XII century. It has always played an important role as part of the military, political, and economic centre of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
For example, in December 1409, two monarchs, Lithuanian Grand Duke Vitaŭt and Polish king Jahajla met at Biarescie castle. A plan for the summer campaign of 1410 against the Teutonic Order was developed.
