Among the interesting finds in Biarescie, a flat round two-sided lead amulet depicting an image of serpents stands out. It has a bust image of Virgin Mary with her hands raised and a small figure of Jesus Christ at her waist on one side, and an image of knotted serpents extending from the head, located in the centre of the disc, on the other side. The serpent amulet served as a talisman to protect its owner from diseases, troubles, and fatalities. The presence of both Christian and pagan symbols on one amulet indicates the complicated path of Christianization of ancient Biarescie citizens.
