An important daily article of use was a tinderbox; when it was struck against flint, the flint produced sparks to ignite a fire. In Biarescie, in the layers of the ХІІІ–XV centuries, six tinderboxes have been found. These tinderboxes were ring-shaped or slit and always had a solid welded-steel strip since it was impossible to produce a spark from a tinderbox with soft iron.
